How to Reduce Your Electric Bill

Are you tired of watching your electric bill go up and up?  There are ways to reduce your electric bill by taking specific steps.  Some steps are very simple and basic.  For example, start limiting the use of appliances by turning things off as you leave the room.  It will help your bill just by turning off the lights, TV or other appliance when you leave the room even if you are gone for just a few minutes.  Making sure water faucets are not leaking and are completely turned off after use.  You are paying to heat that water and if it is going down the drain, it is costing you money and being wasted.  Remember to turn off lights as you leave the room and the fan.  Little things go along way when trying to reduce your electric bill.

Home appliances do use a significant amount of power.  If you are buying new appliances, look for ones that are rated high in efficiency.  New brands on the market are environmentally friendly and more efficient than older brands.  They may cost a bit now, but again, they will save you more money in the future through their improved efficiency.  If you are using older models, you can still save money on your electric bill by following some simple instructions. If you are washing clothes or dishes, run the washer or dishwasher only when full.  Use a programmable thermostat to regulate the temperature in your home.  If you are working on a computer and walk away, take a moment to shut off the monitor.

Teaching family members to follow these rules also will help use less energy, which will reduce your electric bill.  Using less energy will help the earth and your wallet.
